After completing this course, students will know how to:
- Prepare backup, recovery, and disaster plans.
- Describe the internal workings of the Oracle database as they pertain to backup
and recovery.
- Describe the backup procedures for both hot and cold backups and then perform
those backups (without RMAN).
- Perform complete and incomplete database recoveries and full, tablespace, and
datafile recoveries with the database open and closed (without RMAN).
- List and describe the benefits and use of the Oracle Export/Import utility, and
use Oracle Export/Import utilities to perform an export from an Oracle database
and an import into an Oracle database.
- Use the Oracle troubleshooting utilities including DBV and the DBMS_REPAIR
package.
- Describe the basic RMAN architecture. Perform required setup procedures in
preparation for using RMAN.
- Perform full, incremental, tablespace and datafile backups using RMAN.
- Perform full, tablespace and datafile recoveries using RMAN.
- Create stored scripts and generate reports and lists in RMAN.
- Setup an Oracle standby database, enable archived redo log processing on the
standby database, and enable the standby database in read only mode or activate
it for full use.

Students should have knowledge of Oracle8i: Architecture and Administration
(2nd Ed) or equivalent
